Aabout one in two American adults suffers from a musculoskeletal disorder, which costs an estimated $ 213 billion each year in treatment and lost wages, according to a report from the U.S. Bone and Joint Initiative. Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are injuries and conditions of bones, muscles and joints that cause pain and can affect activity (eg. carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis). About 140 million Americans live with an MSD. The total direct and indirect costs for people with both musculoskeletal disorders and other conditions such as diabetes, heart disease or obesity stand at $ 874 billion, according to the report.
