Wicomico County Candidates Forum to Address Environmental Issues Tuesday

SALISBURY, Md. — On Tuesday evening, voters in Wicomico County will have the opportunity to hear from county council and county executive candidates on environmental issues.

The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF), Salisbury University PACE and the Wicomico Environmental Trust are hosting a forum. Candidates will face questions on issues ranging from bay restoration to land use and growth management to climate change.

“All of these issues are things that the citizens of Wicomico County have experience with and concern them with. Wicomico County is a fairly low-lying area with a significant amount of shoreline and tributaries flowing into the Chesapeake Bay,” said Alan Girard, East Coast Director for CBF. “When we talk about environmental health, whether it’s issues related to stormwater management, agricultural runoff, or wastewater treatment, all of these issues directly affect the citizens of Wicomico County.”

Girard says he hopes voters walk away with valuable information before heading to the polls in November. “Our organizations educate. So really the purpose of the forum is to help educate everyone who attends the candidates’ position on the environmental issues that affect them and their livelihoods in Wicomico County,” he said.

The forum is free and open to everyone. It begins at 6 p.m. in the Assembly Hall on the 4th floor of the Guerrieri Academic Commons on the University of Salisbury campus. 47 ABC’s Hannah Cechini will moderate.
